Gilderoy Jack Scamp (7 June 1812 – 12 June 1893) was King of the Romani and a bare-knuckle boxer.[1] He succeeded his father upon his abdication in the early 1840s. He was a friend of Mayer Amschel de Rothschild and had encounters with the police.[2]
Scamp was born on the 14th of june 1812 to Samson Scamp and Celia Lee in Birchington, Kent. His mother was of jewish ancestry.
Scamp was married to Katherine "Kitty" Barton and had 10 children.[3]
Scamp passed away at age 81 from bronchitis in 1893 and was buried in Hawkinge churchyard, overlooking folkestone.[4]
