Rangamati Government High School (Bengali: রাঙ্গামাটি সরকারি উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়), also known as RGHS is a public government high school located in Rangamati Sadar, Rangamati. It is the first operating high school in Rangamati and Chittagong Hill Tracts.[3] It was established in 1890 during the British Raj era.
The school provides secondary education following the national curriculum. The exact location of this school is Old Police Line Road, Reserve Mukh, Reserve Bazar, Rangamati Sadar, Rangamati, Chittagong, Bangladesh. [4] During the 1971 war, many of its students were killed. The school has created many great leaders, policymakers, and professional people. Both tribal and non-tribal students study in this school. It is co-educational.
Rangamati Government High School was established in 1890 during the British Raj era. The school was redesigned and rebuilt in 2015.
Standing on a 13.16-acre total area, the school has five academic buildings.[5] Four of these buildings are used as classrooms. The other building is mainly for the school staff and the headmaster. The teacher's room is on the second floor of one of the buildings. There are a total of 17 classrooms where classes are taken.[6]
There is a big playground where students mainly do their daily assembly. Different types of sports such as Football and Cricket are played here. Sports matches between sections and sometimes even classes are played a few different times each month. Events such as annual sports are also held here.
There is a large auditorium on the northwest side of the school campus. The school auditorium is used for many different events such as prize giving, celebrating different days, organizing meetups, extra curriculum activities, educational purposes, etc.
Located on the third floor of one of the buildings, there is a computer lab where students complete their practical classes.
The school has a library with more than 5000 academic books. Most of them were bought with coeval-sanctioned money during the establishment of the school. Others were bought with annually approved money. It is located on the third floor beside the computer lab.
There is an official school canteen where students can buy food. Singara and Chotpoti are the main dishes. Besides soft drinks, paratha, piyaju, and chips are popular as well. There are also shops outside the school campus where students buy food items, especially after school.
