Watson is an upcoming American television series set to air on CBS. The series, described as a "medical drama with detective elements," is centered around the character of Dr. John Watson from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories.[1]

It is the second CBS series to adapt the Holmes stories, the first being Elementary. While the two programs are otherwise unrelated, they do share some of the same creative team.

Premise

One year after Holmes's death at the hands of his archenemy Moriarty, Watson sets up shop at a clinic for the treatment of rare and unusual diseases. Soon however, Watson must face his past when Moriarty emerges to do battle once more.

Cast

Production

Watson was announced in October 2022, to be created, written, produced and showrun by Craig Sweeny who had previously worked on Elementary.[2] The show was given a straight to series order, bypassing the pilot stage.[3]

By January 2024, Morris Chestnut was attached to executive produce and star as the title character.[4] Executive producer Larry Teng will direct the first two episodes.[5] [6] In May, Peter Mark Kendall and Ritchie Coster were announced as the first core cast additions.[7] In June, Rochelle Aytes was cast as Mary Morstan,[8] followed by Eve Harlow and Inga Schlingmann.[9]

Watson began shooting in Vancouver in June 2024, although the show's setting will be Pittsburgh, where some exterior scenes have been shot.[10] [11] [12] [13] Filming is also set to take place at The Bridge Studios, and is scheduled to conclude on November 22, 2024.[14]

Release

The series is scheduled to premiere in the mid-season replacement for the 2024–25 television season on CBS.[15]

According to producer-director Larry Teng, Watson is intended to premiere on CBS in January 2025.[16] The first episode will have its worldwide premiere at MIPCOM Cannes on October 20, 2024.[17]
