Yitzhar Hofman (Hebrew: יצהר הופמן; 1987 – 31 January 2024) was an Israeli soldier who was a commander in the Israeli Air Force's elite Shaldag Unit.[2] [3]
He was a commander in the Israeli Air Force's elite Shaldag unit during the battles with Palestinian militants in the northern Gaza Strip.[4] Hofman was one of the leading Israeli air force commanders who played key roles in the Israel-Hamas war. He was responsible for the raid on Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza in November 2023. He was supervising the attack and siege on the medical compound.[5] [6]
On 31 January 2024, Hoffman was assassinated by Hamas, who then documented his tracking by a Qassam Brigades sniper, before fatally shooting him with a "Ghoul" rifle (A modified variant of the Steyr HS .50).[7]
